A grim video surfaced on social media showing villagers in Rewa district of Madhya Pradesh carrying a deceased body on a makeshift raft made of drums due to flooded roads. According to reports, an ambulance could not reach the area, forcing the villagers to take on the task themselves. The video, captured in Jawa tehsil, depicts the villagers standing on a flooded road while the body lies on the drums.

Their desperate plight was compounded by the swelling river, which compelled them to tie two drums together and use them to transport the deceased to their homes. The villagers reportedly complained to their local sarpanch, but their pleas went unheeded. The sarpanch allegedly told them, “We are the MLA’s men, and this is how things will continue.

We do not care whether anyone lives or dies.” The incident underscores the severe challenges faced by people in flood-affected regions, where broken roads and overflowing rivers have greatly hampered movement. The deceased did not receive a proper send-off, and the episode raises serious questions about basic infrastructure and rights in rural India.

This is not the first time such an incident has occurred in Rewa. Just two months ago, a tribal woman died on the way to the hospital after villagers carried her on a cot due to the lack of a proper road and ambulance service. These incidents highlight the dire need for better infrastructure and emergency response in rural areas.
