CM Maryam orders relief, rescue operations as river erosion hits Layyah

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has ordered relief and rescue operations in response to severe river erosion in Layyah. Her Special Assistant Shoaib Mirza visited affected areas and met with displaced residents to assess the damage. Approximately 100,000 people have been displaced, with thousands of homes destroyed by the river Indus during the past week.

The worst-affected region is around Samara Nasheeb, where residents fear the river may enter Lala Creek and cause further destruction. The authorities have been instructed to remove obstacles in rescue and relief efforts and provide necessary assistance, including food, ration, healthcare, and transportation to affected families.

A special committee has been established to evaluate the extent of the damage and report back to the Chief Minister.
