Claude down today: Users report issues

On Sunday night, users reported widespread issues with Claude AI, with reports spiking on Downdetector. The majority of the problems, about 41%, were related to Claude Code, followed by 31% involving Claude Chat and 19% concerning the app. Users also faced login issues, website errors, and latency. Anthropic acknowledged the incident on its service status page and stated that engineers were working to restore normal operations, though they had not provided a timeline for a full recovery.

The disruption extended beyond the main chatbot interface, affecting Claude.ai, Claude API, Claude Code, Claude for Workspaces, and several Claude models including Mythos, Fable, Opus 5, and Opus 4.8. Technology commentator Alex Getman reported that these services were experiencing degraded performance, with users encountering intermittent access and increased latency. Some users even noticed a potential downgraded performance or partial outage in their Claude Max bill.

Developers relying on Claude's API for production workloads reported request failures and increased latency, with screenshots showing the issues. A user noted that Claude was going through a major series of outages, and those with looped tasks or agentic workflows were encountering dead ends. Another user even speculated that the outage was, at least partially, due to government not using the service at that hour.

Anthropic's service status page indicated that they were investigating elevated errors on requests to the affected Claude models. However, they did not indicate the cause of the disruption, whether it was infrastructure issues, a software deployment, or unusually high traffic. The company is expected to release further details once the service is fully restored.
