China evacuates tens of thousands as rain from Typhoon Narra lashes southwest

Heavy rain from Typhoon Narra has caused widespread flooding in China's southwestern Guangxi region, prompting the evacuation of tens of thousands of people. Rescue workers have been using boats to transport flood-affected residents, as floodwaters engulfed parts of Chongzuo city, submerging roads and low-rise buildings. CCTV reported that 54,000 individuals have been relocated, with 8,087 taken to emergency shelters.

Water levels at 20 monitoring stations on 15 rivers surpassed warning thresholds. The typhoon has hovered over the Beibu Gulf in the South China Sea, bringing heavy rainfall to Guangxi, Hainan, and Guangdong provinces. More torrential rain is forecast for southern China through Wednesday. China postponed the launch of the uncrewed Chang'e-7 lunar mission from Hainan's Wenchang Space Launch Site, citing failure to meet launch conditions.

The delay also impacted the National Astronomical Research Institute of Thailand, whose scientific payload was aboard the spacecraft. The China Manned Space Agency has not yet commented on the cause of the delay.
