Celtic full-back Johnston out until October

Alistair Johnston, the 27-year-old Canadian full-back for Celtic, will be sidelined until October due to injury, according to manager Martin O'Neill. Johnston sat out the second half of the team's opening match against Kilmarnock, following a hamstring issue that kept him out for much of the previous season. Following a scan, O'Neill confirmed that the recovery will likely take until October.

The Celtic manager acknowledged that the squad needs reinforcement, particularly in defense, given that Kieran Tierney is essentially their sole left-sided full-back. O'Neill added that they will examine other options, but will not speculate on transfer targets until after the match, regardless of the outcome or competition. The manager also dismissed recent rumors of interest in players Ermin Mahmic and Gvidas Gineitis.

O'Neill commented on the team's transfer situation, noting that they lost 14 players but only signed two this summer. He believes the squad can be bolstered further with quality additions. Currently, 19-year-old Colby Donovan is filling in for Johnston, while Scotland international Anthony Ralston is another potential right-back option for O'Neill.
