Celtic full-back Johnston out until October

Celtic's full-back Alistair Johnston is expected to be sidelined until October following an injury that has already sidelined him for most of last season. The Canadian international, 27, sustained the injury during the second half of their opening match against Kilmarnock. Celtic manager Martin O'Neill confirmed the extent of Johnston's injury after a scan, stating that recovery will take some time in October.

The manager had earlier acknowledged Celtic's need to bolster their defensive line, given that Kieran Tierney is their primary left-sided full-back. O'Neill has hinted at scouting for additional defensive players before the transfer deadline on September 3rd, though he ruled out discussing specific transfer targets at this stage.

The manager also addressed rumors of potential signings, asserting that the squad's composition was balanced, with some players leaving and others returning on loan. Colby Donovan and Anthony Ralston have been filling in for Johnston, with Donovan making an impact in the first leg against LASK.
