CDF Munir, Naqvi in Iran as part of Pakistan's efforts for regional peace

Field Marshal Asim Munir, the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) of Pakistan, and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi traveled to Tehran on Monday, according to reports from Iranian media. The visit was described by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) as an effort to promote regional peace and stability. In Iran, the trip was reported to have included a meeting with Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni.

The Pakistan Ministry of Foreign Affairs had earlier stated that the visit aimed to strengthen bilateral cooperation and support peace in the region. Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqai confirmed CDF Munir's trip to Tehran, noting that the delegation would seek to bolster ties between Iran and Pakistan. The United States and Israel initiated the Middle East conflict with a series of attacks on Iran on February 28, followed by retaliatory strikes.

Despite a ceasefire on April 8, the Strait of Hormuz remains a contentious issue, with Iran controlling the strategic energy route. Pakistan, through its efforts including a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in June, has been instrumental in attempting to prevent the escalation of hostilities. Recently, US President Donald Trump signaled a tougher stance on Iran, announcing increased economic pressure, which could include the harshest sanctions in history.

These moves have been met with international criticism, and the United States is expected to soon unveil the details of the proposed sanctions.
