Burnham to meet Zelensky and hand long-range missile blueprints on first foreign trip as UK PM

Andy Burnham, the newly appointed UK Prime Minister, is currently in Ukraine's capital city, Kyiv, marking a significant milestone of 35 years of Ukraine's independence from the Soviet Union. The purpose of his visit is to announce an agreement for Ukraine to start producing its own models of the British storm shadow cruise missile. This marks a substantial step forward in bolstering Ukraine's defense capabilities, as the missile is capable of hitting targets approximately 150 miles (241km) into Russia.

Burnham will also chair his first meeting of the "coalition of the willing," a partnership of over 35 nations that are providing support to Ukraine. This meeting comes nearly a month after Burnham's first encounter with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who is set to reiterate his commitment to British support for Ukraine, no matter how long it takes. Burnham emphasized that Russia's threats against the UK only serve to strengthen this resolve.

The long-range missile that Burnham is providing Ukraine with blueprints for is a significant development in the alliance's efforts to share weapons technology. While it may not be as far-reaching as Ukraine's deep strike drone capability, it is a valuable tool in the fight against Russian aggression. Furthermore, Ukraine is hoping to receive more patriot interceptor missiles to defend against Russian ballistic attacks, which are a constant threat to the nation's security.
