Bila PAS mengalah…

PAS has taken a stance against the National Unity Government (MUAS), making it a cornerstone in its efforts to establish new relationships with Umno. It comes as no surprise that the Movement for Change (MN), established in 2019, disbanded in 2022. Various reasons have been cited for its collapse, but the primary and well-documented factor lies with Bersatu.

At the time, PAS and Bersatu were part of the National Unity Government (PN) and sought to include the latter in MN. However, Umno refused to accommodate Bersatu and insisted that PAS must leave Bersatu if they wished to continue working with Umno within MN. Both parties displayed strong leadership, each with its own set of reasons that are not worth repeating here.

PAS is now forging a strong relationship, especially in the creation of an electoral pact with Umno during the PRN Johor and Negeri Sembilan periods, and this collaboration has been successful. The question remains: why and how did this collaboration come about? PAS's willingness to cooperate without demanding any conditions played a significant role.

In Johor, PAS secured only 11 seats out of 56 offered by the National Election Commission (DUN), while in Negeri Sembilan, they nominated just five candidates. PAS urged its members and supporters to vote for BN candidates in their respective areas, effectively giving BN easy access. PAS wanted to maintain a harmonious relationship with Umno, regardless of the cost, and without much resistance.

Simply comply with Umno's demands, as long as cooperation with Umno is achieved. Even if PAS suffers a loss, that's the perception. The formula of compromising and yielding is expected to be followed by PAS in all states except those they dominate. In other states, President Hadi Awang stated that PAS has given BN-Umno the opportunity to form a government, similar to Johor and Negeri Sembilan, which PAS regards as a sacrifice of their party to Umno for national unity. However, this is merely political rhetoric.
