Bagré Dam at 93.31% capacity, WRC issues update on possible spillage

Burkina Faso's Bagré Dam has reached 234.50 metres in water level, equating to 93.31 percent of its capacity. The Water Resources Commission (WRC) reports the reservoir is currently 0.50 metres below its normal level, which stands at 235.0 metres. Authorities are closely monitoring the dam situation as it edges closer to the point where controlled water release may become necessary.

The Burkinabe electricity utility that operates the dam, Sonabel, might open the spillway if the reservoir level reaches 234.75 metres. Should this happen, the WRC promises to provide an update on the timing and commencement of the water release. As water levels continue to rise, the dam's current level is merely 0.25 metres away from the potential threshold for opening the spillway.

Local residents and communities potentially impacted by the release have been advised to await further updates from the relevant authorities regarding the precise timing and consequences of any water discharge.
