Atiku: Fuel subsidy taking a toll on Nigerians – Ologbondiyan

Kola Ologbondiyan, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress, has stated that the removal of fuel subsidies is taking a significant toll on Nigerians. Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily, Ologbondiyan expressed concern that the current administration's move would hurt Nigerians and his own party more. Ologbondiyan clarified that there is no intention to revert to the previous fuel subsidy system, as claimed by the Atiku Abubakar-led administration.

He emphasized that his focus is on reviewing areas of the subsidy regime that could potentially reduce production costs and, consequently, end users' prices. Ologbondiyan argued that instead of making political arguments, the government should address the real issues at hand, which have caused Nigerians to struggle. He pointed out that the cost of fuel has skyrocketed from around N200 to N1,300, leading to a massive percentage increase that weighs heavily on Nigerian citizens.

Ologbondiyan also questioned the Atiku Abubakar-led party's sudden change of position on fuel subsidy removal, particularly given their previous opposition to the policy before coming into power. He accused them of not having the patience to study Atiku's proposals and doubted their genuine intentions.
