Anwar vows to continue reform drive, draws on Prophet's Medina model

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim vowed to continue his push for reform in Malaysia, taking inspiration from Prophet Muhammad SAW's establishment of a new administration in the Arab region over 14 centuries ago. In a Facebook post today, Anwar said the task of building a pluralistic nation in Southeast Asia in the 21st century is not easy, but he would continue to strive for Malaysia.

He emphasized the importance of guaranteeing basic needs and ensuring tangible peace, which are essential for fulfilling the Maqasid Shariah, according to Muhammad Imarah. In the compassionate Madinatun Nabi, the poor were helped, the weak cared for, and differing views were accommodated. Monopolistic practices were rejected in favor of equitable economic distribution, and envoys were sent to promote a peaceful and just order.

Anwar, who serves as finance minister, expressed his aspiration for the best for all citizens and hoped Allah SWT would bless Malaysia and its people with love and sustenance. He shared the history of Prophet Muhammad SAW's efforts to establish a new administration in the Arab region, where a decade of reform efforts transformed the people with sound intellect, high moral character, and divine awareness.

The sharp clashes between the Aus and Khazraj tribes in Yathrib were replaced by the spirit of Ansar unity for stability, erasing suspicion and anxiety that hindered progress. Anwar quoted a verse from Surah Quraysh: "He who feeds them against hunger and secures them from fear."
