Allahabad HC rejects Atiq Ahmed's eldest son Mohammad Umar's bail plea

Allahabad High Court declines to grant bail to Mohammad Umar, eldest son of notorious gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed, in a case involving extortion and threats. The court dismissed Umar's plea, citing an FIR lodged on April 26, 2023, based on a complaint by Mohd Muslim. Allegedly, Umar demanded Rs 20 lakh from Muslim and threatened with kidnapping, assault, and harm to his life.

Besides Umar, other accused individuals named in the case are Ali Ahmad, Asad Kalia, Mohd Nasrat, and two others. Currently in custody, Umar was granted parole earlier to attend his youngest brother Abaan Ahmed's burial after a road accident in Jhansi. Abaan and his friend Sonu were killed in a crash on August 6 when their SUV veered off Kanpur-Jhansi road.

All three occupants sustained injuries. Umar and his brother Ali were permitted to attend Abaan's funeral following a petition by Atiq Ahmed's sister Parveen Qureshi. The Atiq Ahmed family has witnessed multiple deaths since 2023, with Abaan being the youngest of his five siblings, followed by his elder brother Asad Ahmed's demise in a police encounter on April 13, 2023.

Asad was wanted for the murder of lawyer Umesh Pal, who was a key witness in the 2005 killing of BSP MLA Raju Pal. Two days later, Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf were fatally shot while being taken to a hospital for a medical examination. Atiq Ahmed's sons Ali and Umar are currently imprisoned in separate jails in Uttar Pradesh.
