Air Force strengthens air presence, intensifies operations against terrorists

The Nigerian Air Force, NAF, has bolstered its air operations targeting terrorism, banditry, kidnapping and other illegal activities in the North-West region, deploying a reinforced air presence in Sokoto State to aid ongoing collaborative security initiatives. NAF announced the decision via a post on its official X account on Sunday, stating that the measure aims to bolster aerial surveillance, maintain pressure on hostile forces, and boost security personnel's ability to react rapidly to emerging threats within the Joint Operations Area.

This heightened air presence is considered vital for addressing asymmetric threats, as terrorists and bandits frequently take advantage of rugged terrain, mobility, and concealment to elude ground troops. By leveraging the reach, speed, and adaptability of air power, NAF aims to identify and disrupt hostile elements, impede their movement, and generate operational openings for ground forces to reinforce their efforts.

The initiative also underscores the significance of seamless air-ground cooperation in addressing the region's evolving security challenges. The NAF emphasized that this endeavor aligns with the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, who pledged to maintain a professional and mission-ready force capable of delivering effective air power in coordination with allied services and other security bodies.

The Service restated its dedication to utilizing air power and joint operations to safeguard lives and property, dismantle terrorist and criminal networks, and support endeavors to establish enduring peace and security across the North-West and nationwide.
