After threat, Kashmiri Pandit staffers write to J&K chief secretary: ‘Deep sense of fear’

Following a threat letter circulated online, employees recruited under the Prime Minister's Rehabilitation package for Kashmiri Pandits have penned a letter to J&K's Chief Secretary requesting heightened security and protection. The All PM Package Employees Forum penned the letter on Monday, urging a review of security measures at their workplaces, residences, and transit routes.

They cited a fresh threat poster, purportedly issued by a terrorist group calling itself the United Liberation Council (ULC), and dated August 23, 2026. The poster reportedly threatened migrant Kashmiri Pandit employees and included personal details such as names, addresses, and vehicle numbers of certain individuals. While security agencies have yet to confirm the poster's authenticity, the letter stressed that repeated circulation of such threat letters and posters containing sensitive personal information was a grave concern.

The letter also noted that the matter had been brought to the attention of the police and security agencies for verification and necessary action. This comes after a letter threatening Kashmiri Pandit migrants surfaced two weeks ago, the first time in decades that threats had included personal details down to the house number and street name.

The employees expressed a deep sense of fear and insecurity, calling for immediate and thorough verification of the fresh threat poster and identification of those behind it. They also demanded immediate protection for employees whose names, addresses, or vehicle details had appeared in the threat posters, hoping the government would take the matter seriously and act swiftly to ensure their safety and confidence.
