After Central cancels season, Mount Vernon football finds new opponent

Mount Vernon football was scheduled to face Central on October 23, but the Mountaineers were left without an opponent after Central canceled their season. Coach and athletic director Tom Cox informed the News-Leader of the change. The Eagles had ended the previous season with a 5-7 record in Class 2 football. Mount Vernon will now travel to Summit Christian Academy in Lee's Summit for their next game.

Central's decision to drop down to varsity status for the second year in a row due to a lack of numbers led to the cancellation of their season. Other schools affected by Central's cancellation include Parkview, which had to reschedule their Week 2 game against Lighthouse Christian Academy, and Hillcrest, which does not have an opponent for Week 1.
