Afenyo-Markin to appear before Minority MPs over Sammy Gyamfi’s allegations

According to an August 23, 2024 article, Minority Leader in Parliament Alexander Afenyo-Markin has softened his stance on legal action against Sammy Gyamfi, the CEO of Ghana Gold Board. Initially, Afenyo-Markin threatened legal action over what he called defamatory allegations, including claims that he was an "extortionist." However, he later told JoyNews' The Probe that he would not take Gyamfi to court, invoking the biblical example of Jesus Christ, who remained silent under similar accusations.

Afenyo-Markin emphasized the need for maturity and cautioned against allowing emotions to dictate his response, noting that the NPP expects a certain level of conduct from its leaders. He suggested that the attacks against him might be part of a political strategy to distract from questions surrounding the Bank of Ghana's Domestic Gold Purchase Programme (DGPP) and GoldBod's role in it.

Afenyo-Markin stated that the Minority Caucus had already taken appropriate steps and would not allow the controversy to distract from their planned parliamentary inquiry into the reported losses under the DGPP.
