Afenyo-Markin denies being summoned by Minority over Sammy Gyamfi’s extortion claims

Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has declared the government's Nkoko Nkitinkiti poultry programme a failure, citing instances where beneficiaries have slaughtered and consumed the birds they were given to rear. Speaking on JoyNews' The Probe, Afenyo-Markin claimed that the Minister for Food and Agriculture, Eric Opoku, had acknowledged the programme's challenges, admitting that some beneficiaries had consumed the birds.

He criticized the initiative, stating that it was intended to empower young Ghanaians with poultry farming skills and sustainable livelihoods, but instead, some beneficiaries had resorted to consuming the birds. Afenyo-Markin contends that this defeats the core objective of promoting poultry production and creating job opportunities.

The NDC had promised to revitalize Ghana's poultry industry during the 2024 general election, with the Nkoko Nkitinkiti initiative being a key component of their plan. The government integrated the initiative into the Feed Ghana Programme, launching it in Kumasi in November 2025. The government aimed for the programme to promote poultry production at various levels, improve food security, and reduce dependence on imported poultry.

However, implementation has faced criticism, with concerns raised about delays in other elements of the poultry revitalisation programme.
