Afenyo-Markin accuses gov’t of using state agencies to intimidate NPP MPs

Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has expressed concerns that the government is utilizing state agencies to intimidate and silence New Patriotic Party (NPP) MPs, potentially silencing their voices in Parliament. Speaking on Joy News’ The Probe, he said that several of his colleagues have hesitated to speak forcefully due to fear of being called by the Bureau of National Investigation (BNI).

Mr Afenyo-Markin, representing the Effutu constituency, contends that this government has incorporated intimidation as part of its strategy to suppress the opposition. He did not name the specific MPs but said they have raised concerns with the Minority leadership. The Minority Leader stated that some MPs are under investigation for allegations that he finds too vague to warrant the involvement of investigative agencies.

He asserts that some MPs have even admitted to him that making a submission in Parliament could lead to a BNI call. Afenyo-Markin insists that his criticism isn’t about opposing accountability but is directed at the excessive use of investigations against political opponents.
