2027: Mahdi Shehu faults Betta Edu’s inclusion in APC campaign council

Anti-corruption advocate Mahdi Shehu has expressed disapproval of Betta Edu's addition to the All Progressives Congress (APC) 2027 campaign council. In a recent X post, Shehu questioned the rationale behind incorporating Edu, who is accused of financial misconduct, into the party's team for the upcoming general elections. This decision came after the Presidency disclosed the full list of 223 members in the APC campaign council on Saturday.

Shehu's criticism stemmed from the fact that Edu's inclusion raises concerns about the selection criteria for the council members. He pointed out that her presence on the campaign team could hint at the nature of the campaign based on the character's reputation. Shehu also highlighted the inconsistency in her inclusion, considering her alleged involvement in a multi-billion naira fraud case.

He suggested that criminal records may be viewed favorably in certain political circles. Furthermore, Shehu drew parallels to the case of Halima Shehu, a former NSIPA executive who raised concerns about fraud but faced backlash instead. He emphasized the irony and shamelessness in Nigeria's democratic system, where whistleblowers like Halima Shehu are attacked.
