20-year-old JAS fighter abandons terror group, surrenders to troops in Borno

On August 23, 2026, at approximately 9:30 am, troops engaged in Operation Hadin Kai conducted a checkpoint operation in Mandaragirau, Borno State. A 20-year-old man, identified as Mohammed Alhaji, was apprehended during this operation. According to a military source, Alhaji was suspected of supplying logistics to terrorist groups in the region.

The intelligence leading to his arrest was considered credible, and it was revealed that Alhaji had used a cargo motorcycle, registered as BBU-514VC, to transport supplies to the terrorists and evacuate their wounded. The suspect was further alleged to have been involved in support activities following a recent attack on military personnel.

Following his arrest, Alhaji was turned over to the Army Provost Group for further investigation and appropriate action. The motorcycle used in these logistics operations is currently in the custody of the 162 Amphibious Battalion. The military's aim is to dismantle the supply and support networks that aid terrorist groups in their operations in the North-East.

Despite the ongoing security concerns, the military maintains that the situation remains calm but unpredictable, with troops preserving their morale and operational efficiency.
