2 S. Koreans vying for US$10 mln jackpot at PGA Tour playoff finale

This week, two Korean golfers will participate in the PGA Tour's prestigious Tour Championship at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta. The ultimate prize for the winner is a staggering $10 million. The competitors, Kim Si-woo and Tom Kim, will join 30 other players in the tournament, which commences on Thursday. To qualify for the Tour Championship, players must be among the top 30 in FedEx Cup points following the previous BMW Championship event.

Kim Si-woo and Tom Kim are unrelated individuals, both making their first appearance at the Tour Championship since 2023. Kim Si-woo currently holds the No. 5 position in the FedEx Cup standings, the sole player within the top seven without claiming a victory this year. Despite his lack of success, Kim Si-woo has achieved an impressive 11 top-10 finishes throughout the season, the second-highest total recorded, surpassed only by world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, who has attained a dozen top-10 finishes.

Kim Si-woo's consistency throughout the year is evident, having recorded 51 rounds in the 60s and 62 under-par rounds, earning him the title of leading the tour with these statistics. In contrast, Tom Kim stands out as the only Korean player to secure a PGA Tour victory this year, having triumphed in the Genesis Scottish Open in July for his first win since October 2023. Tom Kim was ranked 29th in FedEx Cup points after the BMW Championship, placing him among the 30 players competing in the upcoming Tour Championship.
