Zelenskyy Holds Bilateral Talks With Nordic and Baltic Leaders on Air Defense, Winter Preparedness, and EU Integration

On August 23, leaders from six Nordic and Baltic nations convened in Kyiv for the Ukraine-Nordic-Baltic Eight summit. The primary objectives of this expanded format meeting were to fortify Ukraine's air defense capabilities, safeguard critical and civilian infrastructure throughout the winter season, and heighten sanctions against Russia. A critical concern for Kyiv was the acquisition of further anti-aircraft missile systems and air defense equipment, given the relentless barrage of Russian missile and drone assaults.

Following the summit, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy engaged in individual discussions with the Nordic and Baltic leaders, expressing gratitude for the steadfast partnership and friendship forged over the years. Zelenskyy emphasized, "Over these years, we have built with each Nordic and Baltic country a partnership and friendship we can be proud of."

The dialogue during these meetings primarily revolved around bolstering Ukraine's air defense, preparing for the upcoming winter, advancing Ukraine's integration into the EU, and expanding collective defense initiatives.

Zelenskyy announced that forthcoming meetings would continue these collaborative endeavors. He acknowledged the region's leaders for their unwavering commitment to aid, stating that Ukraine is striving to reciprocate by leveraging its expertise, combat experiences, and defensive technologies. August 23 holds special significance for Ukrainians, as it commemorates Ukraine's State Flag Day, symbolizing the nation's resilience and defiance against Russian aggression.
