‘Why are you shutting show?’: How Lata Mangeshkar fought for CID after it was pulled off air

Actor Dayanand Shetty, who portrayed Daya in Sony Entertainment Television's long-running crime series CID, has revealed that legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar was a staunch supporter of the show. In an interview, Shetty stated that Lata ji was a huge fan of CID and even intervened on the show's behalf after it was suddenly pulled off the air in October 2018. She allegedly called Sony America and the Indian channel, asking, "I watch this program, why do you have a problem? Why are you shutting the show?"

Shetty also shed light on the internal politics that he believes played a role in the show's abrupt cancellation. He alleged that in 2016, there were attempts to replace the show's producers, to which the actors initially objected. These disagreements led to a lack of legal contracts between CID's production house and the channel, causing issues in later years. The actor remained uncertain about whether the show's cancellation was a loss for Sony or not, but expressed that fans continue to hope for its revival.
