Weeks after Dombivli assault sparked statewide doctors’ protest, Kalyan doctor attacked by patient’s son

A doctor in Kalyan East has been assaulted by a patient's son following a heated argument over treatment, just weeks after doctors across the state protested against an assault at a civic hospital in Dombivli. The Kolsewadi police have registered an FIR against Vinit Jaywant Deshmukh, accusing him of assaulting Dr Yogendra Jaiswal, an orthopaedic consultant at Bhanujyot Hospital.

According to Jaiswal, the patient, a man in his 60s-70s, visited the hospital with his son around 10.45-11 pm, seeking treatment for lower-back pain. After a thorough examination and prescribing medication, the son allegedly began questioning the doctor's treatment and speaking to him disrespectfully. When Jaiswal asked him to use appropriate language, the son reportedly became aggressive, punching the doctor twice in the face and hitting him elsewhere before holding him by the neck.

The incident was captured on CCTV, and Dr Jatin Harbada, owner of Bhanujyot Hospital, stated that Jaiswal had patiently explained the treatment to the patient and his son. The son continued to ask the same questions inappropriately, leading the doctor to tell him to use proper words. This assault follows the Dombivli attack on July 6, where three doctors, including a woman, and two nurses were allegedly assaulted by Shiv Sena corporator Ramesh Mhatre and associates following a dispute over a pregnant woman's NICU admission.
