Wamalwa reveals details of meeting with Kalonzo at Uhuru’s Ichaweri home

During the 23rd commemoration of the late former Vice President Wamalwa Kijana's life, opposition leaders united to honor his memory. Led by Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, the United Opposition principals laid wreaths at the Milimani home in Kitale. This solemn ceremony, held on Sunday, August 23, 2026, began with a clergy-led prayer before each leader took their turn.

Martha Karua, leader of the People’s Liberation Party, and Justin Muturi, former National Assembly Speaker of the Democratic Party, followed in laying wreaths. Lastly, Jubilee Party presidential candidate Fred Matiang’i paid his respects. The Wamalwa family and other dignitaries joined the leaders in paying tribute to the former vice president, who passed away in 2003 after a prolonged illness.

Earlier, Eugene Wamalwa, Michael Kijana Wamalwa's brother, announced that President Uhuru Kenyatta was expected to attend the commemoration to launch a book documenting his brother's life and legacy. The DAP-K leader revealed that the book had taken numerous years to complete, and the event would unite political leaders from across the political spectrum.

Attending the high-level event were Mumias East MP Peter Salasya, former politician Musikari Kombo, former Kanduyi MP Wafula Wamunyinyi, former Kwanza MP Noah Wekesa, former Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu, and former Catholic Bishop Moses Crowley, who presided over the commemoration.
