In September 2026, the US State Department's visa bulletin revealed changes to Green Card categories for Indian applicants. For family-sponsored Green Cards, the F1 category for unmarried sons and daughters of US citizens saw its final action dates shift from December 15, 2018, to January 22, 2020. The F2A category, covering spouses and minor children of permanent residents, also experienced a one-month delay, with final action dates moving from July 22, 2026, to August 22, 2026.

However, other family-sponsored categories remained unchanged. Employment-based Green Card categories for India faced a more significant issue, with the EB-1 and EB-2 categories warning of potential unavailability due to high demand, while EB-3, EB-4, and EB-5 categories also saw retrogression in final action dates or becoming unavailable before the fiscal year ended.
