Uhuru Kenyatta joins opposition leaders for Wamalwa Kijana’s commemoration in Kitale

Retired President Uhuru Kenyatta made his way to Kitale to join opposition leaders in commemorating the 23rd anniversary of the late Wamalwa Kijana, Kenya's eighth vice president. The dignified ceremony took place at the Milimani home of the Wamalwa Kijana family, where Kenyatta was greeted by Wamalwa Kijana's brother, former Defence Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa.

United Opposition principals such as Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, People's Liberation Party leader Martha Karua, and Democratic Party leader Justin Muturi were among the many leaders present to honor the late former vice president. Other leaders present included Jubilee presidential candidate Fred Matiang’i and former Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu.

The retired president proceeded to lay a wreath at the late Wamalwa Kijana's grave, along with the other honored guests. This year's commemoration featured a significant addition - the launching of a book that had taken several years to complete. Eugene Wamalwa noted that the last high-level commemoration of this caliber occurred in 2011, when Kenyatta, then Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister, attended the ceremony and helped build a school in the area.
