Two children die as heavy rainfall destroys houses in Jigawa

In Jigawa State, a severe downpour caused the collapse of buildings, resulting in the tragic deaths of two children and injuries to several others. The heavy rain persisted for over an hour in parts of Hadejia Senatorial District, particularly in Gandun Sarki community within Malam Madori Local Government Area. A house collapsed, trapping children who were asleep, ultimately claiming the lives of a five-year-old and an eight-year-old.

Malam Samaila, the father of the deceased children, recounted the harrowing incident, stating that it occurred while the children were unaware of their peril. Some women affected by the disaster were swiftly taken to Hadejia General Hospital for necessary medical care. Scores of houses, over 20 in total, met a similar fate, while numerous others were submerged in floodwaters.

Among the victims, Sani Abubakar, whose dwelling was entirely destroyed, implored the Jigawa State Government to extend immediate aid to the impacted residents. The village head, Malam Jamilu Bulama, directed his subordinates to gather the names of all those affected by the calamity, enabling authorities to gauge the full extent of the damage.
