Transfer: Arsenal set asking price for Gabriel Martinelli

Arsenal has determined the asking price for Brazilian winger Gabriel Martinelli as the club strives to secure a club-record transfer fee for the player. Current negotiations are underway between the Premier League champions and Al-Hilal. The Brazilian international appears to be closing his chapter at Arsenal, as he was not included in the matchday squads for both the Community Shield and the Premier League game against Coventry City.

Summer signing Christos Tzolis made an impactful debut in Martinelli's customary left-wing role, and with manager Mikel Arteta eager to sign another attacking player before the transfer window closes, tough choices lie ahead. Arteta has previously stated that Myles Lewis-Skelly and Martin Zubimendi remain on his plans, while the club prefers to loan out Ethan Nwaneri.

Martinelli has become Arsenal's most marketable asset, making him effectively surplus to requirements. The Athletic reports that Martinelli is open to the possibility of joining the Saudi Pro League, having rejected a potential move to Galatasaray earlier this month. Arsenal is hopeful of landing a fee of around £60 million for Martinelli, who joined the club seven years ago as an unknown from his youth team Ituano, following the recommendation of talent scout Francis Cagigao.

Martinelli's exclusion from Arsenal's squad for their win over Manchester City in the Community Shield has left former player Ian Wright unhappy with the handling of his impending departure.
