Tommy DeVito throws TD pass, Ja’Quinden Jackson taken off in ambulance as Patriots beat Eagles 24-21

Tommy DeVito connected for a 69-yard touchdown pass to Kyle Williams, as the Patriots edged the Philadelphia Eagles 24-21 in a preseason matchup. Philadelphia’s Ja’Quinden Jackson was airlifted on an ambulance in the opening minutes after tackling New England’s Lan Larison. Eagles backup quarterback Tanner McKee threw two touchdown passes, including a 20-yard strike to Carson Steele with three minutes left on the clock.

When the Patriots mounted a 73-yard drive, led by third-stringer Behren Morton, it culminated in a 37-yard touchdown pass to Nick DeGennaro. The starters for both squads were absent following two days of joint practices earlier in the week. DeVito played the entire first half, completing 8 of 15 passes for 151 yards and adding 44 yards on the ground.

Larison scored on a 2-yard touchdown run. Eagles QB Andy Dalton went 3 of 10 for 44 yards, with two 25-yard strikes to Darius Cooper leading to a 1-yard touchdown run by Will Shipley. McKee also nailed a 14-yard touchdown pass to Britain Covey. As expected, Patriots star cornerback Christian Gonzalez was absent due to an injury and contract issues.

For the Patriots, OL Marcus Bryant left with an ankle injury on the opening play and never returned. LB Khalil Jacobs appeared slow to his feet following his tackle on Williams’ touchdown. He briefly went to the medical tent before returning to the sideline. LB Chad Muma exited the game in the final minute. Steele wowed his teammates late in the second quarter with a dazzling 14-yard touchdown grab, leaping over Brandon Crossley to dive inside the New England 15-yard line.

Steele followed up with a 20-yard touchdown pass to Covey shortly after. DeVito displayed solid scrambling ability, breaking free for a 36-yard run to pressure the Eagles’ defense in the second quarter, setting up a 41-yard field goal by Andy Borregales. Ja’Quinden Jackson faced early struggles and was flagged for roughing the passer by rookie edge rusher Gabe Jacas, who was sidelined after being called for roughing earlier in the contest.
