SC to hear on Aug 24 plea for CBI probe into Jharkhand public service exams 'irregularities'

The Supreme Court of India is set to hear a plea on August 24 for a time-bound, independent probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into alleged malpractices in the Jharkhand Combined Civil Services Preliminary Examination. The petition was filed by activist Harisharan Devgan through advocate Satyam Singh Rajput. The examination, conducted by the Jharkhand Public Service Commission in 2025, has been questioned for its integrity and fairness.

The petitioner seeks the transfer of the investigation from the state CID to the CBI to ensure impartiality. The complaint extends to all aspects of the examination process, from question paper preparation to result publication. The petitioner emphasizes that the allegations are not isolated and require a comprehensive examination of the entire examination chain.

The court is also asked to direct the collection of all physical and digital evidence to prevent tampering. The principal relief sought is an independent, impartial investigation to determine the nature and impact of the alleged irregularities. The petitioner raises a constitutional question regarding the fairness and credibility of the examination's results.
