Saransh Jain’s long wait ends with maiden India Test cap

Saransh Jain's long-awaited debut in Indian Test cricket finally arrived on Sunday when he was awarded his maiden cap for the second Test against Sri Lanka in Colombo. The 33-year-old Madhya Pradesh all-rounder joined the national team after Kuldeep Yadav was ruled out due to an infection, and Washington Sundar was sidelined with an injury. Jain, a left-handed batsman and right-arm off-spinner, has gained recognition through consistent performances in domestic cricket, adding to his reputation as a reliable performer.

Jain's selection highlighted the importance of domestic performances in national team selections, as his domestic record played a significant role in securing his place in the squad. "My selection shows that the IPL alone is not the yardstick for making the cut. It is proof of the hard work I have put into domestic cricket," Jain said in an interview with The Times of India.

In recent form, Jain had a standout performance in India A's tour of Sri Lanka, where he took six wickets and scored an unbeaten 70 in the second match. This impressive display of skill further strengthened his case for the national team. In first-class cricket, Saransh Jain has maintained an outstanding record, playing 54 matches with 2,223 runs at an average of 31.75 and 188 wickets at 27.30.

His selection marks the beginning of a new chapter in his cricket journey, as he now faces the challenge of representing India in Tests.
