River erosion in Layyah: CM sends special assistant to oversee relief

LAHORE: Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has sent her Special Assistant, Shoaib Mirza, to assess the impact of river erosion in Layyah and coordinate relief efforts. Mirza toured Mouza Samra Nasheeb, a locality on the outskirts of Layyah, to evaluate the damage and hear from residents. The chief minister instructed officials to expedite relief and rescue operations, remove obstacles, and provide necessary machinery.

She also convened the irrigation department and Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) at the affected site. Shoaib Mirza oversaw the relocation of residents and their possessions to safer areas, and arranged food and other essential supplies for the affected families. A special committee has been formed to assess the extent of the damage, including losses to farmland, houses, and other properties.

CM Punjab has tasked the authorities with implementing measures to safeguard Samra Nasheeb from future river erosion. Deputy Commissioner Asif Ali Dogar and other district administration officials assisted in the relief and rescue operations. Mirza reported that the Punjab government is providing round-the-clock support and resources to address the flood situation and ensure the safety of the people in the impacted regions.
