Renowned Waka Poetry Reizei Family Holds Event Exchanging Love Poems to Celebrate Tanabata Festival

The Reizei family, the leading waka poetry lineage tracing its origins to Fujiwara no Shunzei and Teika, poets of the Heian period (794-late 12th century) to the Kamakura period (late 12th century to 1333), held a traditional court ritual ceremony in Kamigyo Ward, Kyoto, on Saturday to mark Tanabata festival on the lunar calendar.
