PM approves additional RM1m for Hindu crematorium project in Bagan, says PHEB

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has approved an extra RM1 million for the Penang State Hindu Endowments Board (PHEB) to build a modern Hindu crematorium in Bagan, according to PHEB chairman RSN Rayer. The updated allocation now totals RM2.5 million, surpassing the initially approved RM1.5 million. This additional funding is crucial for the Hindu community, especially in Seberang Perai, where the project will be the second modern electric crematorium in Penang, following the facility in Batu Lanchang.

The allocation was deemed necessary by the Madani Government as it reflects their commitment to addressing the needs of Malaysia's diverse religious communities. Bagan Member of Parliament Lim Guan Eng and state assemblyman Kumaran Krishnan were present at the project site press conference, where they highlighted the importance of the crematorium in providing a proper and convenient space for the Hindu community to carry out their final rites according to their customs and beliefs.

Kumaran emphasized that this is a long-term investment for the Hindu community's benefit in Seberang Perai and surrounding areas, and the tender process for the project has commenced with an expected completion by mid-next year.
