Phone theft claim sparks clash at Andhra nursing hostel; Northeast students shifted

A minor altercation erupted at a nursing college hostel in Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh, on Saturday, following a disputed claim of a missing mobile phone. The conflict erupted between local Telugu students and their counterparts from Nagaland and Manipur. However, the situation was swiftly brought under control by the intervention of local authorities, including Collector M N Harendhira Prasad and Superintendent of Police Bindu Madhav, who visited the hostel on Sunday morning.

As a precautionary measure, the college administration temporarily relocated students from Northeastern states to a secure facility, while the local students were moved to a different part of the hostel. The dispute originated from an allegation of theft, but was subsequently resolved when the missing phone was recovered and returned to its rightful owner.

After gathering information from both sets of students, the local police and other officials clarified that the rumors circulating on social media, including allegations of stolen certificates, suspended fee payments, and expulsions, were baseless. The college management has been directed to enhance hostel facilities and promote a harmonious campus environment.

Addressing safety concerns, Superintendent of Police Bindu Madhav urged the public not to share or believe in exaggerated social media reports. The administration assured parents that all out-of-state students are secure and that their safety remains the top priority.
