New Israeli Ambassador to Colombia Sends an Emotional Greeting Before her Arrival

Vivian Aisen, Israel’s latest ambassador to Colombia, sent an emotional message prior to her arrival in the South American nation. Relations between the two countries had been severed in May 2024 by former President Gustavo Petro. However, with the rise of Abelardo de la Espriella, one of his first diplomatic actions was to restore the close ties that had existed for years. As a result, Colombia announced the opening of its embassy in Jerusalem, and Israel appointed Aisen as their new ambassador to Colombia.

Aisen’s diplomatic career is impressive, having previously held positions such as ambassador to Macedonia and leading the Central America Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. She has also served at Israel’s embassies in London, Chile, Brussels, and the European Union. Born in Brazil, she lived in Jerusalem for many years before taking up her new role.

In an emotional video posted on her social media, Aisen expressed her excitement and pride at representing Israel in Colombia. She praised the country for its people, culture, gastronomy, music, and art, and mentioned her love for dancing, particularly salsa, which mirrors the passion felt in Colombia. Aisen stated her conviction that the two nations will work together for prosperity and well-being, marking a special moment in their diplomatic relations.

The atmosphere for Aisen’s work is expected to be favorable, as both countries recently agreed to mutually eliminate the visa requirement for their citizens. This change, effective from September 1, will facilitate travel between Colombia and Israel, following talks between Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar and Colombian Foreign Minister Omar Bula Escobar.

The exemption will modify the immigration conditions for travelers from both countries. Until September 1, travelers must follow the current immigration rules, as the Israeli Consulate General in Bogota still indicates that Colombian citizens require a visa for tourism purposes. Nonetheless, those planning to visit before the exemption should verify the relevant requirements for their travel dates.
