Man City rallies late for 2-1 win over Bournemouth in Maresca’s first Premier League game in charge

Manchester City secured a 2-1 victory over Bournemouth in their first Premier League match under new manager Enzo Maresca. The Italian, Pep Guardiola's assistant during City's treble-winning 2022-23 season, made his debut in charge at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday. Maresca's initial match with City ended in a 3-0 loss to Arsenal in the Community Shield the previous weekend.

Josko Gvardiol scored the winning goal for Manchester City in the 84th minute of stoppage time, initially disallowed for being offside but later awarded following a video review. Marc Guehi had leveled the score for Bournemouth with a header from a corner earlier in the game. Maresca celebrated his triumph by punching the air and hugging his players upon the final whistle.

Upon entering the tunnel, Maresca wore a black suit, which complemented the welcome banner held aloft by City fans. The Italian manager's slickness, similar to the team's play under Guardiola, was evident towards the end of the match.
