LSU soccer drops matinee to FGCU

LSU’s women’s soccer team suffered a 3-2 defeat against Florida Gulf Coast in their non-conference game. This puts LSU's record at 1-3-0, while FGCU's record stands at 2-1-1. This marks the first time since 2016 that LSU failed to win at least two of their first four non-conference games. Both teams had 16 shots, but FGCU had 8 shots on goal compared to LSU's 6.

The game was decided not by individual shots, but by the overall performance. LSU had opened the scoring with a second-minute goal, but FGCU quickly equalized at the start of the 20th minute. The turning point came in the 38th minute when FGCU executed a perfect set play off a throw-in and scored with Ava Russell. LSU managed to put the game away in the 84th minute with a Sarah Greiner penalty kick goal, but it was not enough.

LSU's next match is against Arizona State on August 27 at Tempe, followed by another game against Arizona on August 30.
