Liberty stave off Fever comeback in high-scoring nail-biter as Caitlin Clark misses layup, free throws late

The Indiana Fever faced a tough loss to the New York Liberty at the Barclays Center on Aug. 22, as the Fever could not manage a comeback against the Liberty. Caitlin Clark led the Fever with 21 points and seven assists, but her late-game struggles led to their defeat. The Fever found themselves down three points in the opening frame, but the Liberty managed to find the lead once again with Breanna Stewart's free throw and Leonie Fiebich's layup, handing the Fever a narrow margin.

In an attempt to regain control, Clark drove to the basket with a timeout, but her shot was just off target, and no foul was called. Clark, visibly upset, then aggressively defended Kelsey Mitchell, resulting in a foul and a free throw for the Liberty with 29 seconds remaining. Despite having the possession, the Fever were unable to secure a win, finishing the game with a collective 11 of 22 free throws. The New York Liberty emerged victorious with a final score of 109-102.
