Atlético Madrid's Julián Álvarez faced severe booing from his own supporters during a La Liga match against Villarreal. The Spanish forward, who started the game on the bench, was jeered while warming up. His reaction worsened when he came on as a substitute in the 66th minute. The Argentina international has reportedly been considering a move away from the club to pursue his career ambitions, with Arsenal and Barcelona among the teams linked to him.

Atlético took the lead shortly before the hour mark through Marc Pubill, but Villarreal quickly equalized through Gerard Moreno's penalty. The visitors took the lead again after Atlético defender Robin le Normand was sent off in the 76th minute. Atlético's goalkeeper Sergio Rico then scored a late penalty to secure a 2-2 draw for Atlético. Álvarez left the pitch immediately after the final whistle, drawing further disapproval from the crowd.

Atlético started the league season with four points from their opening two matches, while Villarreal remained winless after drawing both of their games.
