Iran war live: Tehran warns neighbours against joining US economic war

Iran cautioned nations against aligning with the United States' campaign to economically isolate the country, according to Mohsen Rezaei, the leader of Iran's Supreme National Security Council. Rezaei made the warning on state television. He declared that any nation participating in imposing economic restrictions against Iran is regarded as an adversary.

As the conflict enters its sixth month, US President Donald Trump announced a "most crushing economic operation" against Tehran. Rezaei suggested that if Trump proceeds, the confrontation would be as intense as an earthquake. In addition to urging other governments to join the effort to intensify economic pressure on Iran, Washington has also called for their participation.

However, China, one of Iran's primary strategic allies, has criticized the new campaign, stating that sanctions and pressure will not resolve the issue. Instead, China advises all relevant parties to adopt responsible actions and resolve the problem through political and diplomatic means. The United Arab Emirates, a significant trading partner for Iran, already announced on Wednesday that it would sever all financial and economic connections with Tehran until further notice, citing escalations that endanger peace and security in the region.

Talks between Washington and Tehran are currently suspended following nearly six months of war since the US and Israel carried out airstrikes against Iran on February 28. US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent is scheduled to deliver a press conference at 2 p.m. EDT (1800 GMT) on Monday to provide further details on the economic measures against Iran.

Bessent stated that this will be the most extensive coordinated economic isolation in world history.
