Insecurity: Nigeria must not become a killing field, Obi tells FG

Nigerian presidential candidate Peter Obi has warned that the country must not turn into a "killing field" following recent deadly attacks in Benue, Plateau, and Niger states. In a statement posted on social media, Obi described the incidents as a national security emergency and called for immediate and decisive action from all levels of government to protect vulnerable communities and prevent further bloodshed.

He highlighted the attacks in Mangu, Plateau State, where at least 23 people were killed, and the destruction of over 45 homes. In Niger State, the violence resulted in more than 40 deaths and over 100 abductions, though the figures are disputed. Despite not being officially at war, Obi emphasized that citizens are being targeted in their villages, abducted after prayers, forced from their homes, and deprived of their farms.

He urged governments to strengthen security measures, enhance intelligence gathering, and swiftly respond to rescue abducted individuals and prosecute those responsible. Obi stressed the importance of preventing attacks before they occur, warning that the country cannot continue to count bodies after each incident.
