Genesis GV90 Neolun proves safety of pillarless design

San Francisco — Genesis has unveiled the GV90 Neolun, a luxury vehicle engineered with hidden structural reinforcements to ensure top safety levels despite the absence of a traditional B-pillar, executives announced on Thursday. The GV90 Neolun showcases the Arch Gate, an innovative independently opening coach-door system that removes the conventional B-pillar between the front and rear doors, creating a wide, unimpeded entry.

Despite the absence of this visible pillar, Genesis' head of body design, Lee Dae-hee, asserts that safety has not been compromised. "We relocated the structural functions typically managed by the B-pillar into the doors," Lee explained. "The hidden B-pillar structure utilizes two 1.8-gigapascal-strength steel beams positioned vertically and horizontally, supplemented with upper stoppers and impact hooks to reinforce the structure."

Additionally, Genesis integrated a "hidden roll cage," a distinct structural framework embedded within the body to encompass the passenger compartment. This system, combined with the hidden B-pillar structure, is designed to bolster safety and provide a spacious, unobstructed driving experience.
