GB cyclist wins award for final stage performance

Alice Towers, a cyclist hailing from Worcestershire, has been awarded the combativity accolade on the concluding stage of the Lloyds Tour of Britain Women. The race organizer recognized her as the most aggressive and attacking competitor on the day. Towers, representing the Great Britain National Team, initially led an early breakaway group along with two other riders, creating a significant gap of over two minutes.

However, she was eventually caught in the final kilometer of the race, with Dutch sprinter Lorena Wiebes emerging victorious. Despite narrowly missing out on the stage win, Towers expressed her appreciation for the crowd's support, saying, "It was nice to be ahead of the peloton, just to hear all the crowds. I just heard so many shouts for my name so thanks to everyone that came out to watch.

I was born in Worcester so I have my grandparents here, my mum, my dad, my dogs. It's really nice to feel the home support." The final stage of the Tour of Britain Women 2026 was held in Leamington Spa. Mauritian rider Kim Le Court-Pienaar secured the overall general classification for the 2026 Tour of Britain Women. British rider Josie Nelson, competing for Team Picnic PostNL in Lichfield, was named Best British Racer, adding another silverware to British riders.

Nelson expressed her excitement, stating, "It feels really special. I've not won anything like this before. I think the competition this year is potentially the highest that there has ever been at the Tour of Britain."
