Forensic audit needed to determine abuse or governance lapses in Felda, says DPM Zahid

PETALING JAYA, Aug 23 — Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has called for a forensic audit to uncover if there has been any misuse of power, breach of trust, or governance shortcomings within the Federal Land Development Authority (Felda). Zahid emphasized that a mere management audit would not suffice, as the agency's longstanding issues have resulted in significant financial losses totaling billions of ringgit.

Speaking to journalists after addressing the Ministers and Chief Executive Officers Summit in conjunction with the World Islamic Tourism & Trade Expo (WITEX) 2026, Zahid stated that the RM9 billion in losses could not be ignored. As the Rural and Regional Development Minister, Zahid also discussed the possibility of establishing a Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) to investigate Felda.

He stressed that those found accountable should face justice if evidence supports it, but the focus should remain on uncovering the truth rather than victimizing or humiliating any individual. Zahid assured that the government would continue to safeguard the interests and welfare of Felda's 225,000 current settlers and the broader community that includes first to fifth-generation members, numbering around 1.8 million people.

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim indicated on Friday that he would wait for the Special Task Force's comprehensive report on Felda's management problems before issuing an official response. The task force has commenced its investigation, with its findings anticipated to be presented soon and subsequently made public, akin to the RCI report on Lembaga Tabung Haji.
