E-auction boosts KP fisheries dept’s revenue by 245pc

PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa livestock and fisheries department has witnessed a remarkable surge in revenue, up by 245 percent, after launching e-auctions for fishing rights. The department's income has risen to Rs666 million in the current fiscal from Rs190 million during the same period last year. A total of 17 water bodies, primarily dams, across the province have been auctioned for a three-year lease.

The department transitioned from a manual auction system to e-auction last month, which resulted in a significant jump in revenue. Prior to the e-auction, the revenue from Tarbela reservoir stood at Rs150 million, but it jumped to Rs571 million this time. Gomal Zam Dam's revenue increased from Rs19 million to Rs33 million, while Zaibi Dam Karak saw an increase from Rs1.2 million to Rs3 million.

The Chitri Dam Haripur auction saw a rise from Rs1.6 million to Rs3.2 million, and Kandar Dam Kohat's revenue jumped from Rs1.1 million to Rs2 million. Similarly, Kot Ragha small dam in Kurram, Raghghan small dam in Bajaur, and Medani small dam in Kurram all experienced revenue increases ranging from Rs1.05 million to Rs4 million and Rs2.04 million to Rs2.5 million.

The livestock secretary, Zariful Maani, attributed the increase to the introduction of e-auction, which eliminated middlemen, minimized human intervention, and enabled real-time competitive bidding, making the process more transparent, digital, and sustainable.
