Doctor assaulted by patient’s son inside Maharashtra hospital, FIR registered

An orthopaedist in Thane, Dr Yogendra Jaiswal, was assaulted by the son of a patient at a private hospital, according to police reports. The incident occurred late on Saturday night at a Kalyan hospital. Dr Jaiswal was examining Jaywant Deshmukh, who had sustained a rib fracture, when the patient's son, Nitin Deshmukh, began questioning him informally and disrespectful terms.

Jaiswal stated that he maintained respectful language, using "aap," while Nitin addressed him as "tu." The patient's wife then expressed her disapproval of Nitin's behavior and requested him to leave.

The altercation escalated when Nitin entered the examination cabin, allegedly abusing Dr Jaiswal and assaulting him. The commotion persisted for about five to six minutes, causing anxiety among other patients. Dr Jaiswal immediately called the emergency services, and the police arrived at the scene shortly after. Nitin fled the scene once the police arrived. Police have confirmed that an FIR has been registered in the case, and an investigation is currently underway.

This incident is reminiscent of a similar case in July when Shiv Sena corporator Ramesh Mhatre and his supporters allegedly assaulted two doctors, including a woman doctor, at a civic-run hospital in the region. The Bombay High Court later granted bail to Mhatre and the other accused and instructed them to stay outside Maharashtra until further orders. Mhatre is currently residing in Goa.
