Delhi: Cab driver, wife & son held for killing passenger over fare dispute

What began as a regular cab ride in west Delhi's Naraina Vihar quickly turned violent and fatal. A family comprised of a cab driver, his wife, and their son were arrested for allegedly killing a passenger following a dispute over the fare amounting to Rs 1,000-1,500. The body of the unidentified man, aged between 30 to 35 years, was discovered on Monday near a wall of an NGO.

The victim, found naked and covered in blood, had suffered severe injuries to the right side of his head and multiple wounds throughout his body. Distinctive markings, including a heart-shaped tattoo with an arrow on his left forearm bearing the names "ANAND" and "RENU", were also found on the victim.

The murder weapon, bricks and pieces of a pot-like object, were discovered nearby. Police initiated an investigation by examining CCTV footage from various cameras around the location and adjacent routes. The cab, a Maruti Eeco registered to Rajinder Kumar, 59, was traced and verified. Kumar, a Naraina resident, confessed to the crime.

According to his account, he had picked up the passenger from IFFCO Chowk in Gurgaon and the argument began over the fare. The dispute escalated into a physical altercation inside the vehicle, during which Kumar allegedly beat the passenger with bricks and an earthen pot until he died.

Kumar then allegedly called his wife, Kamini Mukhija, 50, and their son, Laksh Makhija, 28, to the scene. The three attempted to cover up evidence by hiding the victim's belongings and attempting to dispose of the vehicle. All three have now been arrested, and the vehicle has been seized.
