Customer sues eatery, food delivery platform for ₹505 pizza order, wins ₹10,520 payout over ‘3 inch’ issue

An Uttarakhand man filed a complaint in consumer forum for a mismatch in his pizza order, winning a ₹10,520 payout. He had ordered a 10-inch pizza, but received a 7-inch instead, according to Indian Express. The customer support chat and other platforms failed to resolve the issue, prompting him to seek legal action. The consumer commission, presided by Gagan Kumar Gupta, deemed the case as a deficiency in service and an unfair trade practice.

The parties were ordered to pay ₹10,520, covering the pizza price, delivery charges, mental and physical harassment compensation, and litigation expenses. The e-commerce food delivery platform tried to dismiss its responsibility, arguing it merely connects users with third-party restaurants. However, the commission sided with the customer, holding both parties accountable for the service deficiency.
